The Battle

On the 13th October Harold reaches Senlac Hill on the edge of the forest near Hastings. He gathers his men on the top of the Hill.

On the 14th October William came from Hastings and attacks the English positions. The Norman knights are driven back all day.

Harold's two brothers are killed. The Norman knights pretend to run away to get the English out of their defences. The English leave their positions and chase them.

Here on level ground the Norman horsemen turn and destroy the English foot soldiers. Harold himself is killed. His other men run away into the forest. William has won the battle.
