What We Do In First Year Science (Key Stage 3)
All first years follow a modular system during their first year. We have found that by breaking the work into small modular units pupils find the course more interesting, varied and easier to understand.
Modules Studied
Safety - This module lasts about two weeks and gives all first year pupils a good grounding in all aspects of safety in a science laboratory.
Processes - The pupils spend a number of weeks getting familiar with and skilled in the use of scientific apparatus.
Other modules studied -
Biology, Materials, Electricity and magnetism, Solar system and Earth Science, Chemistry.
Assessment
The Curriculum content is continuously assessed by classwork, projects, homeworks, end of module tests and term examinations.
Other Activities
Pupils are encouraged to enter science competitions, take part in environmental activities and go on science trips.
At the end of first year the Best Pupil and Most Improved Pupil in science are selected for awards.
