160 mature trees to be given the chop

160 mature trees will soon be cut down along Barrack Road.

Why? so that more tarmac & other materials can be laid for yet more cars. The previous government finally concluded that more road = more cars = more accidents & air pollution........ but the West Central route is going to be built encouraging health and environmental problems rather that focusing on sustainable transport solutions. The trees along Barrack Road act as essential lung for city dwellers and are good to look at. It may take up to 60 years before any saplings planted to replace them reach the size of the present trees.

Is this acceptable to you?

If not , local residents are gathering every Tuesday morning at 8am outside the BBC to tie ribbons, other decorations & protest signs on to the trees. This action,(lasting approx. 20 mins) will at the very least show the city council that what they are doing is unacceptable to local residents.

The campaign will last for a few weeks before they plan to give the trees the chop.
