"WE GOTTTA GET YOU A WOMAN" is on Runt by todd rundgren. this is a different
album than Runt:The Ballad of Todd Rundgren, although the latter is probably
a better album. they are both great though. also worthwhile are Hermit of
Mink Hollow and Something/Anything

Date: Date: Sun, 26 December 1999 i was not asleep. i was under the piano it was not me it was not immy i did not write it's only love ad
Date: Tue, 16 November 1999 1) i am so happy to be playing in a band with immy finally after all these years i could just shit. bryson is scared and so is vickrey. they should be. they know we don't need them any more.. now we keep them on out of pity. it's only a matter of time before the sheer shame of it causes one or both of them to quit. probably bryson first. dan has no shame and little self respect. 2)we like pretty girls. i am not about being pc . i just didn't like my friend being called a ho. do whatever you like to each other. there, now you have something to have inane arguments over for the next 2000 posts(or until tomorrow, whichever comes 1st) 3)loved " god save the immy" or " my immy tis of thee". kristin is a genius. 4)personally love the line in St robinson...and yes it is mean. so what. i meant it to be. don't worry. i almost certainly didn't mean it about any of you. i was not angry at any of you. especially not zack even though he and i don't always agree about gigolo aunts songs 5)letterman is thursday 6)seattle shows are on 12/16 and 12/17 7) more la shows are probably being added. the 1st three sold out in 1/2 hour 8)we got gold record plaques for canada today. gold in two weeks . not bad. 9)as for tonights non encore:you can't go out for an encore if you don't get an encore. we stood around backstage looking at each other embarrassedly and somebody finally said, "god it's pretty quiet out there. what do we do?" i know you're gonna say the crowd was going wild or something, but all i can tell you is that all of us felt the same thing. you can't go out for an encore when there's no encore and we didn't think we got one. we were pretty embarrased and it's the first time that's ever happened since we started headlining...ever. never before . and hopefully never ever again. but either way, we are also never going to go on stage for a total bullshit encore when the crowd is silent. i would be too embarrassed. that would be worse than this and this was bad enough. on the other hand what the hell are you felling all self righteous and ripped off about? we're playing way longer shows than we ever have before. even without the encore we had already played 15 or 16 songs for almost two hours. we were the ones who played our asses off for two hours and didn't get an encore. i still thought it was a great show. sorry if we didn't get to make friends. we tried. ad(archbishop of rawk, friend to badgers) ps. i wrote down the words to kristin's song and then called immy and woke him up to sing it to him. oh how we laughed.
Date: Tue, 09 November 1999 1st of all, i want to apologize for running off through the "mob" after the boston concert. you should all know it was not your fault and we were not reacting to any mob scene. i would have stayed and signed autographs until you were all satisfied but we had to go. the new york marathon was the next morning and we needed to get back to nyc before they closed the streets since the finish line was basically in front of our hotel. sorry about that and please don't think it had anything to do with you. there will probably be days when we don't feel like signing because our friends are around, but this was not one of those days two)we do not, as matt told someone, reserve the front row for "record company types who talk and nod throughout the set" matt lives in an imaginary world which i'm sure is quite pleasant but bears little resemblance to earth and like all good leprechauns, he lives to do mischief and spread misinformation wherever he lands. he does however have a magic newt and if you can find it he will grant you three wishes. good luck. we reserve the front row at each and every show where we can to give the tickets to kids outside who can't get in to sold out shows or to likely looking fanatics from the top row of the balcony. we do this specifically for the purpose of avoiding industry or rich guy front row snoozers. we learned this lesson early and we adhere to it whenever we can. three)the girl in the video is the lovely and talented miss amy smart. she has been my friend for years and i adore her. she is one of the coolest people i know and a legitimate walking talking ray of sunshine. she is a good friend and was kind enough to be in the video(although i think she had a pretty fun day too). she was in "varsity blues" and is occasionally on "felicity", but i really loved her in "outside providence", one of my favorite movies this year. you should all see it. and don't read more into this than there is. she's my friend and she's got a boyfriend. four)the voice at the end of "mrs. potter's lullaby is ........................................................ .................................................................................................................................me. five)i happen to think " you better get yourself together, baby" is an absolutely incredible song. i would be proud to have written it and, with great fondness, i have to disagree with zack. sorry zack, you're wack. six)there are fifteen minutes between joe 90 and the gigolo aunts and there are thirty minutes between the aunts and us. i have to warm up and i like to see the aunts so i can't start uuntil they're done bye ad
Date: Tue, 26 October 1999 i'm thinking about submiting all my recent posts to the plunge. when is the next issue?
Date: Tue, 26 October 1999 seriously. 1)no country band 2)no band tension 3)nobody leaving 4)no part ownership of vh-1 nonsense 5)no disillusionment-not even a little 6)not jaded 7)not writing serious posts for the last few days-except that i DO think people were being pretty unfair to lance and danielle on a separate note. fuck those shitheads from the dmb folder with their crap about banning the sale of bootleg recordings. i happen to love bootlegs and i think these people who work so hard at wiping out live bootlegs are small minded greedy ass clowns. if someone is going to spend $30 on a bootleg, they probably already bought 4 copies of your record. these goat fuckers are just ruining something wonderful for the rest of us. may animals shit on their feet. have a nice night. see you in atlanta tomorrow. don't forget to get your costumes together for boston on halloween ad sleep well
Date: Mon, 25 October 1999 but i am a big star. that's not my fault. i didn't do that. you all did. i just made the music... you made the fame part...and as for the vh-1 show, i'm one of the silent partners. i bought 30% of the show when they were first conceiving it five years or so ago . seemed like a good idea then. can't say i like the show much now, but i damn sure don't think they're going to be doing any stories on me in the near future. one may not be able to stay famous forever but the power one consolidates now clast just as long or longer. i have a piece of legends as well the new behind the music jr., brokered as part of the deal to get a program on cc. having our former publisher become president has been a gold mine for me. it's not as beatiful, but i's more fun and much more lucrative than music. fuck the beauty. it passes eventually, and most of you complain about it more than you appreciate it please buy our record so that i can get more money and buy more things that will eventually aid me in gathering enough power and possessions that i might not notice the inevitable numbing. you can probably feel it already judging by your comments bye bye ad
Date: Mon, 25 October 1999 we will never ever ever ever re-record the demo songs. put it out of your mind. there is no santa claus either ad
Date: Mon, 25 October 1999 just one more note. what if danielle dated lance because he was a great guy ? what if she liked him because he was basically a really nice likeable person and not at all because he was some pop star? wouldn't that be a pretty good reason to go out with him? if that was true, who would be the screwed up one? danielle fischel or you for judging someone you don't know based on your opinion of their music? your mistake isn't in fantasisizing about people you don't know, it's in condemning people you don't know. my friends don't love me because of my music and i hope i never date or fall in love with someone who does. i've never had a huge problem with people not liking my music(maybe a little bit here and there), but people hating me personally and abusing me personally because they didn't like my fucking music nearly ruined my life at one point. wise up . nice people (and why would you like counting crows if you weren't nice , caring, thoughtful people) do not say shit like that. should i look down on people who have less musical talent than myself. i don't. why would i? why would you? ad
Date: Mon, 25 October 1999 don't really understand. band generally feels potter's is the best song i've ever written. told them about the folder's fiation on this being a country album. much laughter at that. everyone thinks this album has the least country feel of any crows album. nobody gets it. as for the future, we have talked a lot (between myself , dan, charlie , immy and ben mostly) and there has been a lot of dissatisfaction lately with our direction. for a lot of us, our roots are in country music and we feel we've been suppressing that for years now. we've been jamming a lot in that vein lately and talking more and more about getting back to that on a more permanent basis in the future. this is causing some rifts in the band as matt and dave aren't really all that into this. actually, they're not into it at all. at least for now, the friction is resulting in some awesome gigs but i wouldn't be surprised if the future held some changes for our lineup in the next few years. you gotta play the music you feel like playing whether other people want to play it or listen to it or not. it wouldn't be all that big a surprise to me to tell you the truth. i've had a feeling for a long time that dave would rather be producing records and matt says he wants to go live in india and teach music. either way, it's great for now. see y'all on tour ad
Date: Sat, 23 October 1999 the woodstock people are lying. we were contractually allowed to pick our song. we picked round here. they balked at the nine minute length. we talked them to suck our butts and they left it off the record. to be honest, i was relieved. i am ashamed to have been involved in any way with woodstock. people were raped there and they have taken practically no responsibility. the vibe sucked, the army base sucked, it all sucked. well, not everything. we were great. (so conceited i am) p-funk was also very much the bomb. ad ps.hope you can all get used to the twang. we've started working on cuts for the new album and it's all obscure country cover tunes. sorry. can't help it. we dig 'em. pps.arrived in atlanta yesterday. saw fight club tonight. gigs in europe were staggering for us. we have never played like this before. it's becoming like sex and religion and dreaming again. tuesday we begin
Date: Sat, 23 October 1999 each of the last two shows have been over two hours long and have featured eight of the ten new songs. what is kid things?; never heard of it . it does not exist. how could it exist? go to sleep you cheaters. it's past all your bedtimes. without country there could never even have been rock and roll. there is certainly no counting crows without the influence of country music. the sex pistols were originally a country band. so was earth, wind and fire. so was nirvana. so were the beatles. so were the jackson 5ive. so were you. garth brooks wishes he was ever truly. go see body shots. my best friend produced it . she is like a little sister to me. if you all go to the movie she will be a big successful producer and everyone will like her. right now i'm the only one who likes her. you can like her too. she's very nice and this is her 1st movie ever. it's hard to be a girl movie producer. the guys are sexist pigs and they are not nice to girls trying to get into the club. the song over the closing credits is by joe 90. GO TO SLEEP!!!!!!! ad
Note: Adam has not posted March - October

Date: Wed, Mar 3, 1999 been offline for a while. what the fuck are you people talking about? how the hell do you have any idea at all how i approach women or what i want out of my relationships with them? and where do you get off judging that which you only guess at through gossip columns?
Date: Sun, Feb 14, 1999 came home early. snore. no hope. only way i'm meeting the girl of my dreams tonight is if i go to sleep night ad
Date: Sat, Feb 13, 1999 by the way, i know i'm gonna catch more shit than sympathy for the playboy party. still dig you all. fling what you will. you're cool as lemonade ad
Date: Sat, Feb 13, 1999 glad you enjoyed my new mastery of the cut 'n' paste. the colorblind track in the movie is the same one that will be on the album. i'm trying to make this extra clear so that nobody gets tricked into buying them both if they don't want to. not trying to discourage buying the soundtrack for the early listen, but i don't want anyone mistaking this for a unique track. it will be on the new cc album. hope y'all have a nice weekend. i am personally planningon extreme bitterness. going to playboy mansion tonight because i am a huge loser and have no one to spend val day with. hoping to meet girl of dreams tonight and enter into long term meaningful relationship, perhaps marriage, maybe even children. life as rock star is distressingly reminiscent of life as high school sophomore. at least on valentine's day. still, my best wishes to you all. good luck surviving all the happy loving shitheads ad
Date: Wed, Feb 3, 1999 colorblind on album will be the same as on the soundtrack. it did turn out awesome though. thank you jen. going to sf in the morning for the gigolo aunts show wednesday at slim's. come if you're in the bay area. don't forget saturday is the record release party/gig at the viper room in la. going to boston for the gigolo's hometown record release party on 2/27 and i'm going to stay on the east coast for a while to play some gigs with cracker, i think. looks like i'm playing philly with them on 3/4, and then nyc on 3/5 and 3/6. gigolo aunts will probably be opening the shows on the 4th and the 5th. big fun. whenever you do hear colorblind, please note my bravura xylophone playing. i played the piano too. very proud of it. managed to get xylophone all over this record. gotta sleep. bye, me
Date: Fri, Jan 29, 1999 have spent the last two weeks in and out of sickbed. started to get better over weekend, then relapsed tuesday into more serious flu. aaaaaaaaaarrrgggggggg!!!!!!!!!!! i am so sick of being sick! and now to the news..."colorblind" will be in the film "cruel intentions" and on the soundtrack as well. saw the film and liked it. very nasty. we thought about it and decided it wouldn't hurt anything to let it be included on the soundtrack this time. it won't, in all likelihood, be a single or a video however. we did not give them permission for that. you will be able to get the song on the album in february or march, i don't know when they are releasing the album. sounds like a pretty coolm soundtrack(blur, the verve, us). it will also be included on our album later this summer, if you don't feel like getting the soundtrack. in other news, the gigolo aunts are releasing their brand new lp m"minor chords and major themes" on my label on feb. 9th. they've been living with me this month while they play gigs up and down the west coast. you should check them out if you get a chance. they are simply awesome. remaining gigs are sat. jan. 30th at the martini lounge in l.a., wed. feb 3rd at slims in s.f. before winding up with their recdord release party/gig at the viper room in hollywood on sat feb 6th. hope you can come and hope you get the record on the 9th. hope i feel better soon. ad
Date: Sun, Jan 17, 1999 we signed all the posters this week, so they should be in the mail this week. spent this week putting the finishing touches on " i wish i was a girl" and "mrs. potter's lullaby" gigolo aunts played at the martini lounge last night. the sound sort of sucked , but the band was great. they play all the saturdays this month at the martini loung and all the tuesdays at the casbah in san diego. then they go up to sf to play slims on the 3rd{ i think} and then back to la for the record release party at the viper room on saturday the 6th. the record, incidentally , comes out on the 9th. ooops phone call gotta go. impatient girl ad
Date: Sat, Jan 2, 1999 on the subject of fanclub posters. if you haven't gotten yours yet, it's because i think they're all at the studio. they deliovered them up there right before we left and i don't think anyone even realized what they were. i know i didn't until right before i left.

sorry 'bout that see you soon

Date: Fri, Jan 1, 1999 happy new year everyone. good luck ad
Date: Wed, Dec 30, 1998 please do not start calling dj's about my house and then posting on the board. i have already spoken to my housesitting friends about having dj's over in my bedroom who then go on the air the following day to blab about it. that's my home. it's private. no fair.
in other news, it is absolutely breathtakingly beautiful here in the mountains of idaho where i am currently ensconced. snow everywhere and lots of nice people.
personal fave record this week:the 4-cd set "Nuggets:Original Artyfacts From The First Psychedelic Era 1965-1968". this set is so awesome you will freak out and fall over. all the original garage band one hit wonders in one incredibly well put-together box. i got it for all the guys in the band as a present(well, actually, i still have to give matt and ben their copies, but i bought them). buy this set and behold.
p.s. i hear it's about $20 cheaper on amazon.com
personal fave occurence so far in 1998: the ever inspiring University of California Golden Bears whooped the North Carolina Tar Heels tonight by the score of 78-71. roll on you bears. tonight i sleep the sleep of angels for all is well with the world.
or at least that one thing is really cool.
sleep well

Date: Fri, Aug 21, 1998

i really like bill clinton. he's the first president since jimmy carter who has not used the presidency to commit what i consider to be absolutely evil acts. lust and sex are not moral issues that bother me in a president. i don't care that he lied about them because not one fibre of my being believes them to be any of our business and i think the real crime is spending forty million dollars on a court case so that we can all be peeping toms in the life of a president. i do care when you lie about things that are our business. it bothered me when our government was caught red handed selling drugs in america to finance illegal wars in nicaragua and el salvedor and everyone from ronald reagan to george bush to oliver north went on national tv and either flat out lied about it or claimed to simply "not recall" the incidents in question. extra-marital affairs do not have to be approved by congress or the american people, but wars do. and going around replacing inner city drug programs with billboards that say "just say no" while you are actually selling these very same drugs to pay for an illegal war is hypocrisy in an almost satanic level. that pisses me off.
meanwhile unemployment is down, the economy is up, and the multi billion dollar deficit clinton inherited from his predecessors is gone. he didn't get the health care program installed, but he sure tried hard, and on a moral question, that counts for some thing to me. on the other hand , he did get a blowjob and not tell us about it. forty million dollars were spent so that we could find that out. can you imagine what that money could have done for a free clinic, or a school, or a women's shelter , or a library, or just the salary of a policeman or a fireman. or a grant to a sculptor or a painter or a choreographer. or a researcher in an aids lab. or anything. god, there are so many iin such desperate need. what a waste. if i get a blowjob, i'm not telling anybody either because it's nobody's business.
decent people do the wrong things sometimes, and they are still better place to live in and a place to be proud of.. i expect him not to commit any crimes against humanity. i expect him to try to accomplish the little things that don't necessarily fit easily in a campaign slogan, and i expect him not to violate the constituion. the only thing that ever made america really special was the constitution. once you throw that away, it's not so impressive here. he's been the first president in a while who honored that.

in other news, we heard a bunch of tracks from this band willis that dennis herring produced right before us, and they are incredible. it won't be out for a few months, but i can't wait.

sleep well.

we finished mastering "baby, i'm a big star now" this morning and sent it off to the film's director this afternoon. his name is john dahl. he also directed "red rocks west" and "the last seduction". we only gave them the right to use the song in the film and in the trailers. this is not for any soundtrack. it was written for the film and it will only be heard on the film unless we put it on our next album(a distinct possibility) bitchin new song called "speedway"

bitchin new album title:hideous chicks(why i don't like 'em and why matt hates 'em too and more importantly why neither of us can figure out what the hell you people have been talking about for the last few weeks)

why waste posts on this shit. i don't care what these people say about me. why should you. the folder is so much better when you ignore them. it's also much less fun for them. they're not bugging me. i get done working at the studio. i say goodnight to ben or matt or dennis or whoever is left. i drive home(maybe pausing somewhere along the way to converse with or seduce some uber babe[dig the slyly inserted german reference to showcase my multilingual male energy]. before falling asleep, i log on and check my mail or the folder. i note the interesting posts. i see that some worms are obsessed with my dating/drinking/chauvinizing/vulgarizing/metatisizing[i don't really know what that means] ways. i roll over and go to sleep. the next day i go back to all the "...ing" i want to. and my mom still thinks i'm great. so if my mom thinks i'm great, i feel ok about it too. and so should you

meanwhile, this is still a great folder. just ignore them. have fun . this next album is gonna be real cool. but it will probably take awhile.

i personally love pearl jam. today was our 1st day with dennis herring, our other producer. guess what? he's awesome. two new songs today. one waltz is fully written and will be done in a few days. it's called " Amy Hit the Atmosphere". the other one is kind of psychedelic 70's space funk. no title yet. dennis and david together make it really creative and really easy in the studio

shit, it's light out

thank you all very much. your posts are all so great(except the guy who whined about the unlistenable guitars-go get a life-rock and roll=guitars. period) the rest of you are so great. i was a little surprised about rolling stone too. that's a bit harsh and a bit personal. i don't really like reading that. had two weeks off. bedridden the entire time except for about three days. 1st -inner ear virus caused loss of equilibrium, general dizziness and head rushes(very unpleasant), 2nd-strep throat brought upon by weak system fighting ear virus(very very Unpleasant) 3rd-threw out back(ouch!!!very very very unpleasant) 4th-got food poisoning from sushi at modern rock live broadcast(very much like reading rolling stone review) more recording tomorrow

going to new york in 1 week to do interview and shoot cover photo with natalie imbruglia for musician magazine-neat!

live in new york-it's me!

hi, the record comes out july 14th, the spelling errors are in the website but not on the album itself(thank you julie, i spotted the same crap thanks to your link last night and freaked out but then i checked my copy of the record and all was fine. i told them to fix the website in any case. al hail julie. all hail julie. julie hail al. whoever al is.) , and as far asi know, there is no scheduled modern rock live appearance, but that's probably just something i forgot. i can't remember anymore of your questions.
