Across A Wire - review

Adam Duritz is a musical connoisseur. He loves music which identifies itself from the grey avarage. The fact that he and his band the Counting Crows became a mass product is hard for him to understand. Contrary to Adams believes there are more music lovers in this world. Its not a sin to like the 'rootsy rock' of the Counting Crows. The six from California already proved themselves capable of beautifull things on cd. The same can be said for the live appearances. The 'live on stage' capabilities of the Counting Crows can now be heard on Across a wire, a double cd with two faces. Two shows for American musicbroadcasters (Vh1 and Mtv) but totally different in setup. The first cd is intimate. An unplugged album the way an unplugged album is supposed to be; pure, direct and honest. A cd packed with accoustical highlights like the hitsingle Mr. Jones and the opener Round Here. The second cd is stronger, intenser. A rock band which works his butt of without losing sight of nuances. The almost Irish melancholy, combined with the American expertise also make this live adventure very pleasant to hear. Being able to make the listener long for more after twelve songs and the final chords of walkaways surely can be called a good job. Across a wire is more then a live cd. The fact that some of the songs are played twice (plugged and unplugged) only proves that a good song can be played in many ways. Our compliments...
