[RMS St Helena - cargo ops]
RMS St Helena
This ship runs from the UK to
Tenerife - St Helena - Ascension - St Helena - Cape Town
and then back again . Once a year , around Christmas , it also calls at the small British island of Tristan de Cunha . It is a passenger liner carrying both cargo and passengers . To the Saints ( the name given to the local inhabitants of St Helena ) it is a lifeline bringing mail , supplies and is also their main means of coming and going from the island . There is no proper port at Ascension Island , Saint Helena or Tristan da Cunha . All cargo and passenger operations are carried out at anchor as seen from the photo .
