What are we all about?

Basically, if you live in N.Ireland and have more than a passing interest in any area of aviation then you are missing out on a lot if you are not a member! We have members old and young who are into airbanding, military and or civil aviation, aircraft restoration, aviation photography, modeling and any other field you care to mention! Or are you seeking information about any aspect of the history of aviation in Northern Ireland, civil or military? If so, it's possible the Society's extensive archives contain the answers you require, be they related to events, personalities, tragedies, locally-based aircraft, airfields, World War II aircraft crashes or whatever.

Our magazine, The Ulster Air Mail, is the main means of communication with a truly international membership. The man at the helm is Editor Graham Mehaffy. Why not assist Graham in his perpetual search for material for the magazine and drop him a line. You can sample 2 previous articles from the Ulster Air Mail by clicking on the links below.

Activities

Monthly meetings feature various luminaries. In the past these have included guest speakers such as Brian Lecomber, aerobatic ace in the Rover Extra 300 (and no mean novelist also) and Ron Shimmons, Senior Inspector with the Air Accident Investigation Branch.

There are also regular quiz nights, aero-modeling and photographic competitions.

We also have our Heritage Centre which up until October 2005 had been an ex WW2 airfield near Crumlin. Here you could have wandered around the hangar and marveled at the collection of aircraft. Our most recent addition, a Wessex helicopter, arrived in March 2004. We also have a Shorts Tucano, Vampire, Seahawk, Wildcat, Buccaneer and a Shorts 330, the cockpit of which you can enter, sit at the controls, and make silly airplane noises! Hopefully it will not be too long before these splendid aircraft are once again on display at our new home. Watch this space for an announcement of the location!

All this and much more for a measly £21 per annum, Europe (including Republic of Ireland) £25 (€40), £29 for overseas (USA $40), £10 for juniors (16 and under) and £23 for families!
