Emerald Airways Pictures?

My brother, Paul Weeks, flew the Emerald Airways Skyvan and Heron in the mid sixties along with his friend John Evans. The two of them met up recently and were saddened that neither of them had any photographs of the time nor their next jobs flying Viscounts out of the Midlands with Treffield Aviation. Has anyone got any photos of the Emerald fleet that I can buy? I would really appreciate it! Martyn Weeks

I am seeking information on Irving Silvermann.

He was an airman with the USAAF based at Langford Lodge 1942-45. My father, Terence Burns (Terry) worked as a civilian during this time at the base and he and Irving were great friends. After Irving returned to the USA he and my father corresponded for a while but then lost touch. The last known address he had was, my mother believes, in New Jersey.
Thank you. Eleanor Dent, Cardiff, UK

Seeking info on my Grandfather, Jack Gottschalk,

who was In the 5th Fighter Squadron of the 52nd Fighter Group. He served about 4 years from 1942-1946. He started out from Selfridge Field, Michigan. I know he served in Italy and Sicily. I am trying to find other individuals who served with him so that he could communicate with them. I would also enjoy any information for my own family tree. Thank you very much.

Parts sought for Vampire T55

I am rebuilding a Vampire T55 fuselage /cockpit for display and am on the lookout for a few missing parts. I have made contact with David Hamilton who is the President of the Aviation Society of Ireland and he has put me in touch with your Group. My cockpit has taken me eleven years to restore and is now nearly completed! I am still missing a Gun sight Mk4E,  Standby compass type E2a, 16 small electrical switches, (these are the early type which have a small ball at the end of the switch blade) and one seat. (the same type as is fitted in the Vampire F.B.5. This cockpit is of the early type,ie no ejection seats and the old glass house type canopy. My windscreen has a large crack in it, but I guess I am lucky to have one at all. The vampire was in service with the NZ Air Force betwen 1951 and 1963 when it was sold for scrap. Only the fuselage survived and is looking quite good now. I have had to rebuild both sides from bulkhead No 1 to No2 and replace the front metal bulkhead (No1) and the wheel box.
Well I will finish now  and send this off.

Seeking harness for 1946 Auster J/1N

Sir, I am looking for a harness to my fathers 1946 Auster J/1N in Denmark. I have been told it is very rare but a harness from a Chipmunk or a Cessna 152 will do.

Hope for the best. Torben Martinsen , 6504 Heather Brook Court, McLean VA 22101 USA

Researching Ballyhalbert and Bishops Court Airfields 1939 - 1945

Dear sir, Having recently discovered your web site I have enjoyed reading the many articles contained therein. I would be obliged if you could help me with a few queries of my own. I am keen to learn of any squadrons based at Ballyhalbert and Bishops Court Airfields along the Ards Peninsula during the period 1939-1945. Any information you may have regarding types of aircraft, sorties or individual stories would also be most welcome. I have recently acquired the Airfields of the North book and whilst I found it interesting the subject was not dealt with in enough depth. Can you advise of any books on the subject which may be available?

Seeking information on Sea Hawks and HMS Hercules/INS Vikrant

Dear Sir I am currently beginning research work into the history of the Hawker/Armstrong-Whitworth Sea Hawk with a view to producing what will hopefully be an as-near complete account of its development and use with the Royal Navy, Royal Netherlands Navy, West German Navy and Indian Navy. On 4 May 1961 the former HMS Hercules was officially renamed INS Vikrant at Harland & Wolff, Belfast. There followed a fly-past of Sea Hawks from 300 INAS (then based at Brawdy for pre-embarkation work-up training). Have any of the UAS members any more details on this event, or indeed on Sea Hawks in general? If so then I would be very interested to hear from them. Yours faithfully Lee Howard
Searching for a copy of the book "Caught in a Free State".

Could any person PLEASE HELP ME to get the details about this book as I wish to try to get a copy. Yours Faithfully (and HOPEFULLY) Dave Karr
Information sought on 5th Fighter Squadron of the 52nd Fighter Group (Spitfire Va's)

Dear Sir, I found your page on a link from Spitfire Information Worldwide with whom I have had some good correspondence about the 5th Fighter Squadron of the 52nd Fighter Group that was based at Eglinton (and probably Maydown) during 1942. I have been e-mailing just about everyone that I can in America and Norway and have found some good information. I still feel there is something eluding me. The 2nd and the 5th fighter groups operated Spitfire Va's, I have found six for the 5th and over 200 so far in wide ranging research. Do you know of anyone with any info. on the 5th (I believe they were in RAF uniform but with eagle squadron badges, although I am not certain). I know that Va X4908 went on to HQ 12th fighter group at Bovingdon (the 5th were in 12th fighter group, but were operating with the 8th until they were needed to cover the North African Landings). Any photo's or info., however slight will be gratefully received. Roger Aldworth
Seeking Information on F/S Francis Dermot Byrne

I am trying to find information on a F/S Francis Dermot Byrne: an RAF Volunteer who was killed Mon 5th Feb 1945. I am researching him on behalf of his family and I am a member of the U.A.S. Unfortunately I have not been able to establish which Sqd he served in, or indeed his service number although his family have contacted RAF Innsworth requesting that info. I have photos of him and he was a signalman. He served with a Lancaster Sqd, although there are no visible markings on the aircraft except the letter P on the nose. I also know that he had served in Egypt, Libya, Gibraltar, and French Morocco. The family have his medals which is the most important thing, but they would like to know more about his service record and meet any one that served with him. The family are fairly sure that the aircraft in which he was killed, came down in marsh land in or near the Welsh border. They also recall that the aircraft, and possibly the bodies; were never recovered. I think it likely that they were on a training mission but I cannot be certain. The family know that he is named on the War Memorial in Runnymede on panel 270 which lists a number after his name 1123766. As mentioned before a photo we have of him is with a Lancaster Sqd but he may well have served on other types. Anyone with any info should contact me or send your info care of U.A.S. Langford Lodge. Thank You . Paul McAllister
Handley - Page V1500

ProdgerArcier I am currently researching the story of the

Prodger, who piloted the first Belfast produced machine over the city, on the 20th December 1918. I am also seeking information relating to Francis. A. Arcier who was assistant to Handley - Page Chief designer G.R. Volkert CBE, while design work was being carried out at Harland & Wolff Ltd Belfast , in the 1917 / 1918 period. If anyone     has any information, an e-mail would be  appreciated. Regards, Eric Gray
