The Castle game - the walkthrough


Level 1. The Bridge Inn.


The first thing you need to do is arrive. Let K. stand on the bridge for a long time, gazing into the illusory emptiness above him. Then go to the inn by the bridge.


In the inn you will see some peasants and the landlady and landlord. Head straight for the landlord and enquire about accommodation. If you approach him in the right way he will let you sleep on a bag of straw in the corner. Go upstairs to the attic where you will find the bag of straw which you can use for a bed. Go to sleep on the straw. Do not attempt to engage the peasants in conversation!


You will be awakened very shortly by the landlord and Schwarzer. Schwarzer will tell you that you have no right to stay in the village. Claim to be the Land Surveyor summoned by the Count. Schwarzer will ring the Castle to check out the story, and discover it to be untrue. Do not change your version of the story, as the telephone will ring again and you will be acknowledged. Everyone else will file out of the tap-room leaving you to go to sleep undisturbed.


Level 2. The first journey around the village.


In the morning you will meet the landlord after breakfast. Ask him about Schwarzer and he will give you the lowdown. Then leave the Bridge Inn and start to walk to the Castle. Keep going in a straight line, looking only at the Castle. Go past the church, where you will meet the teacher and a group of pupils. Ask him about the castle, although you will not get very much useful information.


Carry on looking only at the Castle. After a long time you will notice that you do not get any nearer but likewise do not get any closer either. When K. has no more energy left, give up trying to get to the Castle, turn off into a sidestreet and throw a snowball at the nearest door. Roughly address the man who opens the door for you.


In the house you will meet Lasemann and his family, as well as Brunswick. Go to sleep.
